How do you stay ';just friends'; with someone after you were intimate and you want them more than a friend?

I'm not sure if our first intimacy encounter was just a sexual one night make out session or the possibility of a romance. So, I stopped so it wouldn't be a one night thing and said that we probably shouldn't risk our friendship. Now, I want to know what could be going through his head???? How do you stay ';just friends'; with someone after you were intimate and you want them more than a friend?
Watch his body language when he is around you. Listen for any subtle remarks he may make about that one night. It may point an arrow at what he's driving at between you and him.
