How to become friends with someone i barely know?

ok so im new at my school and im trying to make some friends. a lot of people seem like they want to talk to me but when they do idk what to say. for example theres this girl on my bus that sits next to me like everyday she sais hi sometimes but i feel like we have nothing else to talk about if u were in that situation what would u say?How to become friends with someone i barely know?
You can ask the girl that sits next to you what class she is in, what classes she likes/dislikes, how her weekend was etc. You can also ask others these questions - this way you slowly get to know more about people and the more you know about them, the easier it is to make the transition to friendship. First of all, ask what her name is. Then maybe ask each other about favorite bands or school subjects and stuff like that. Find something that you have in common and stay on that topic. Share your opinion about stuff like school lunches? Lol. I've been in a simialar situation. But then again, it was in kindergarden. Haha. But I'm sure it'll work and it sounds like she wants to be your if she sits next to you every day. Good luck!
