Why can people be friends with someone who did something bad in their past and understand them?

basically lets say someone did something bad in their past and regret it, you would still be ok being their friend.

but if someone else did the exact same thing to you, you would never forgive them even if they are sorry.

how is it any different.

it is almost like, you won't forgive someone who cheated on you, but you will go ahead and then date some who cheated on their ex.Why can people be friends with someone who did something bad in their past and understand them?
Experience never fails to expand and affect our viewpoints. However, this personalization dos not automatically result in enlightenment. Why can people be friends with someone who did something bad in their past and understand them?
I believe that it is the ';they didn't do it to me so it will be okay'; mentality. A lot of people want to see the best in other for their own personal reasons.
well if you firstly look at yourself and can see all your mistakes and things you have done then you can easily forgive or at least understand other people
