How can I stay friends with someone who has a crush on me when I do not like them like that back?

I am sixteen years old and totally happy with my boyfriend of one and a half years. I have a ';friend'; who has an interest in me, but I clearly am not interested like that in him. I want to stay friends, but I am afraid that he will not want to be my friend at all anymore. For his sake, back off from the friendship at least for a while. As long as you're friendly with him, he's going to have a hard time convincing himself that he doesn't have a chance. If you care about him, help him to get over you quicker by clearly showing him that it's never going to happen between you. Once he starts dating or has clearly moved on to another crush, you can carefully start up your friendship again. But don't get too close: ask another close friend to keep an eye on whether or not you might be sending mixed signals to the boy. You really don't want to do that.
Be a grown up. He probably knows you wont be together cause you are dating. So just act like a friend to him...he should get the hint

Well, you have no idea how he's feeling. He wants to be more than friends, but you have made it clear that that is not going to happen. If you have a strong relationship as friends then he will most likely be content with you being a good friend to him, but this also depends on his maturity level. If you dont have a strong friendship then he may move on, but whatever you do, DO NOT makehim feel weird for having these feelings, they are extremely normal. The fact that you think you need to end a friendship because one has feelings for the other means you have some maturing to do yourself. Dont make this awkward for the poor guy.
Remain nice to your friend who has an interest in you.Show him by your actions that you already have a boyfriend. For instance, talk with your boyfriend on your cell phone in front of your friend using endearing words like: ';I miss you, luv.'; Your friend will get the message and respect your choice.


If your friend still makes advances, be explicitly verbal. ';I have a boyfriend. But I want you to be my friend.';
